Sapper Jamie Larcombe was a trusted soldier who fought on the front line in Afghanistan under the harshest of pressures, mourners at his funeral were told.The combat engineer, 21, was farewelled by hundreds of people including family, friends, soldiers and politicians on Kangaroo Island yesterday. He died on February 19 in a Taliban ambush in Oruzgan province.Sapper Larcombe was the 23rd Digger killed in Afghanistan since 2002 and part of the Darwin-based unit that also lost Corporal Richard Atkinson, who died on February 2.Brigadier Gus McLachlan, commander of the Darwin-based 1st Brigade, said it had been an honour to serve with the Kangaroo Islander.He leaves behind his parents, three sisters and partner Rhiannon.
